Dometic Carry-On
Carry OnThe Carry-On is the only hatchtop air conditioning unit that is designed specifically for the marine environment. It’s ideal for boats that are too small for installed seawater-cooled air conditioning systems. It installs in minutes. It won’t break your bank account. And it pumps out 6720 BTUs of cool, dry relief.

The Carry-On fits in any standard-size hatch. The adjustable, waterproof hatch bag fits over the unit and the hatch cover, sealing in the cool air and keeping out insects and rain. There’s an adjustable leg and a convenient bubble sight glass on the outside of the unit, making it easy to level the unit. And when you leave the dock, the Carry-On stows below deck, in your dockside locker or in the trunk of your car.

All of the operator controls are easily accessible on the bottom of the unit. You can turn it off and on, set the thermostat and adjust the fan speed from the cabin. A detachable air deflector is standard with the unit.

The Carry-On runs on normal dockside 115V 60 Hz power. (The Carry-On 7020, a 220-240V 50 Hz model, is also available for applicable areas outside North America.) The Carry-On 7000 only draws 6.9 amps running. All internal components are made of corrosion-resistant materials, and the outside case is built of a tough, durable polymer. The best news is, the Carry-On is priced
for budget-minded boatowners. It sells for a fraction of the cost of a built-in water cooled system.

Zephyr ZF Units
Zephyr units are a series of cooling-only, self-contained air conditioners designed for marine use. All models offer direct-expansion operation in a compact, low profile unit with a seawater-cooled condenser.

A self-contained unit is typically installed under a settee or berth, or in a locker or other convenient location. A return air grill should be located near the unit, and the discharge air is
ducted to a grill mounted high in the cabin.

All air conditioning components are installed on the Zephyr chassis, including the compressor, condenser, evaporator, blower and electrical components. The deep condensate pan encloses the entire drip line of the unit and acts as the mounting chassis. A mounting kit, with hold-down clamps and drain fittings, is also included.

High efficiency rotary compressors offer quiet operation and light weight, with low starting and running power requirements. The unique seawater condenser is constructed of fluted
cupronickel tubing inside a copper shell, and is mounted in an evaporator shroud to minimize unit size. The evaporator coil has rifled tubing and lanced fins to increase heat transfer between the cabin and the refrigerant. The squirrel-cage blower can be rotated 90° to the vertical position.

Two electromechanical switch assemblies are available for the Zephyr units. The ZFSA1-XB 2-knob switch has three modes (OFF-FAN-RUN) and thermostatic control, and the ZFSA1-Z(C)B is a 3-knob switch that also includes variable fan speed control. Both come with a 10ft (3m) harness.

Zephyr units are designed for easy installation and serviceability. All units come from the factory pre-charged with R-22, eliminating the need for field charging, and are fully tested. Units with R-417A (non-HCFC) refrigerant are also available. Models are available in 5,000, 10,000, 12,000 and 16,000 BTU/Hr capacities, in either 115V/60Hz or 220V/50Hz.

In addition to the basic Zephyr unit, the following components are required to complete the installation and are sold separately or as a complete kit: seawater cooling system, air distribution system, and control.

Cruisair discharge and return air grills are available in a wide
assortment of dimensions, styles and materials to blend with
any yacht's interior.

The vanes of discharge grills are secured in nylon bushings for easy dependable positioning. RA-type return air grills have one row of fixed vanes. Wood return air grills have a lint screen, which can be removed for cleaning.

Round plastic discharge grills are also offered in several colors with and without shut-off dampers.

VSDVariable Speed Drive

The VSD is an optional solid-state micro-processor-based fan speed controller designed to reduce blower noise, especially when operating at slow speeds.

Plenums/Mounting Frames
Blower Plenum
Blower plenums mount directly to blower outlets, which are different for each size blower. A plenum is selected by blower size and duct outlets. All blowers have rectangular openings, such that a blower plenum may be rotated 180° from listed orientation.

Box Plenum
Box plenums are similar to blower plenums, except the inlet is another duct connection. A box plenum has one inlet, with multiple outlets on any of the other box sides.

Grill Plenum
Grill plenums are available for most grill sizes. But any plenum with height (H) and width (W) dimensions greater than the grill cut out will work. Flanges are available on either the long or short sides, or both. Dual duct plenums (with two duct connections) are also available.

Mounting Frames
Mounting frames come in many configurations designed to be installed directly on the various evaporator units. They provide a shock mount to eliminate the transfer of any noise or vibration to the surface on which they are mounted. The frame includes a means of supporting the weight of the blower motor which extends out the back of the blower housing. This also addresses the need for some clearance below the units to accommodate the condensate drain fitting. The mounting frame kits include the necessary frame, brackets, hardware, and instructions to simplify the installation.

Also available is a universal mounting leg kit, which consists of four brackets or legs and the necessary hardware and instructions for installing on any type evaporator. The brackets are designed to provide a height adjustment on the units. Depending on the evaporator selected, the type of installation and the particular application, only three brackets may be required.

SMXDX Modulating Systems
Modulating System Controls
Each cooling unit in a modulating system requires its own separate control. There are two control options; the SMX II microprocessor control system or a 3-knob electromechanical switch assembly.

SMX II Control System
The following components are required for each cooling unit:
PLHMX-HV power/logic module, SMXir keypad/display, CXP
connection cable, and a TSEP temperature sensor. The power/logic module includes a 3 ft (.9m) wire harness to
connect to the cooling unit junction box. The CXP cable, available in many different lengths, connects the SMXir keypad to the P/L module. The TSEP temperature sensor, also available in different lengths, plugs into the P/L module and the sensor bulb is installed in the return air path of the cooling unit.

A variable frequency drive eliminates the large starting inrush current of the compressor by ramping up voltage and frequency in a controlled time period. This allows running on limited dockside power, and also protects the generator from overload.

In addition to eliminating inrush, the VFD will also run a compressor at 60Hz, even when input power is 50Hz, which allows full BTU capacity performance (230V only). The drive also protects the compressor by monitoring input voltage and output current, and will shut down if a power supply problem is sensed.
